About the Business
Royal Worlington has been regularly listed amongst the top 100 courses in Britain and Ireland, by Golf Monthly, and has the reputation of being the greatest 9-hole course in England, if not the world; Bernard Darwin described it as 'The Sacred Nine', which is the title of its history written by John Gillum in 1993 for the Club's centenary.
It has been compared with St Andrews, having been laid out for the gutty ball and yet, with scarcely any modifications, it remains a great test with the modern clubs and ball. Like St Andrews, it may not quite measure up at first sight to all the tributes paid but the more familiar it becomes the more the special quality of the golf becomes evident.
Royal Worlington is also the home club to the Cambridge University Golf Team, The Light Blues, a tradition that dates back to when the Club was formed in 1893.
