About the Business
Founded in 1929 the 9 Hole Course, described as the 'hidden jewel of the West', is a magnificent test of Golf. Set on the western shores of the Lake District, offering views of St Bees Head, the Isle of Man and the Lakeland Fells the Golf Course proves a popular attraction for the local residents and visitors.
It was under the inspiring guidance of Mr J S Boulter (Headmaster of St Bees School 1913-46) that the current golf course was designed and developed on the school grounds besides the cliffs. It is acknowledged however, that a golf course did exist on the same ground in the early 1900's, albeit, the layout being extremely different.
In the early 1900's we also understand that St Bees Golf Club was formed. However, it seems that when the course closed in the latter stages of the first decade so did the club.
